What Is Artwork?

All orders placed through Quiver require artwork. But what is artwork exactly?

Artwork is a pictorial representation of a film, with important text including title, cast/crew and tag lines. If you've ever been to a movie theater and seen the movie posters that line the walls, then you've seen artwork.

Here is an example artwork for the movie 'Stripped'.

File Requirements

For all orders, Quiver requires what's called a Main Poster Art file. This file is the main artwork for your film.

The Main Poster Art file must meet the following specifications:

1. PSD file - Quiver requires a Photoshop file for the Main Poster Art. Ideally, the photoshop file includes separate layers for the main images and text.

2. Minimum size, color space, and DPI - Quiver requires artwork that:

  • is at least 2000 x 3000 pixels in size,
  • has a color space of RGB,
  • and is at least 72 DPI.

But what does this all mean? If you're unsure whether or not your artwork meets these minimum requirements:

  1. Open the file in Preview (Mac)
  2. Click Command-i to open the file's General Info box
  3. The file's image size is listed as Image Size
  4. The file's DPI is listed as Image DPI
  5. The file's color space is listed as Color Model

3.  G-Rated Artwork - When a title is available on a retailer's storefront, the artwork for that title will be visible to everyone, including children. Because of this, Quiver requires all artwork to be free of nudity, extreme violence/gore, and any content that could be considered offensive.

4. Disallowed Text - Retailers have requested that certain text be removed from artwork before delivery. This includes credit blocks, URLs, pricing references, and festival laurels.

If your artwork doesn't meet one of the above requirements, then Quiver will reject the artwork file and request a new file.

Retailer-Specific Artwork Requirements

Some retailers require artwork files or conformance in addition to the Main Poster Art. These retailers include:

Steam

Steam requires several artwork files that are similar to, but different from, the Main Poster Art. There's a good chance that you do not already have the necessary files for a Steam delivery. This isn't a problem because Quiver can create these for you!

If you do want to create your own Steam artwork, please follow the below guidelines:

Netflix

While Netflix orders only require you to provide the Main Poster Art file, Quiver does charge additional fees for conforming that artwork to Netflix specifications. These include:

  • Netflix Main Artwork Conformance - $825
  • Netflix (language) Artwork Conformance - $120 per language

Wait, what does Conformance mean?

Conformance is the work that Quiver must perform in order to create and deliver artwork files that meet a retailer's requirements (in this case, Netflix). When delivering any film to Netflix, an order will include a Netflix Main Artwork Conformance fee. If the order includes more than one language, then the order will also include a Netflix (language) Artwork Conformance fee for each additional language.

Why can't I create my own Netflix artwork?

Due to Netflix's high standards for artwork quality, all artwork conformance must be performed by a Netflix-approved team. The conformance fees included in a Netflix order reflect the prices that these teams charge to conform and deliver Netflix-quality artwork.
