CC stands for Closed Captioning. CC is a text file that transcribes dialogue, sound effects, and music cues for the deaf and hard of hearing. The viewer can turn CC on/off while watching a film purchased from a digital retailer.
Closed captioning is a hard requirement for all orders for the United States. It is required by law to include closed captioning when distributing content in the United States.
Can I Provide My Own CC File?
Sure! If you already have a Closed Caption file for your film, then include this file in your order.
HOWEVER, if you have never created Closed Captioning before, Quiver strongly recommends having a 3rd party create the CC file for your film. Quiver offers CC creation services for all orders. Just click 'Create This for Me' next to the CC asset requirement in Step 4 of the order creation process.
Quiver will then create a CC file for the film and deliver this file back to you once it's complete. This file is yours to keep.
File Requirements
The CC file must meet the following specifications:
1. File Type - Quiver requires one of the following CC file types:
- CAP
- ITT
- SCC
- SRT
Please Note: Quiver will not accept any other file formats for CC. If you open the CC file in text editing software (e.g. Word, TextEdit) and see words, then the CC file is not in a format Quiver accepts. When opening a CC file in text editing software, the file should look like this:
2. Synced CC - The CC file must be synced to the feature or short film file delivered to Quiver. Do not provide a CC file for another version of the film.
3. Content Requirements - CC files must transcribe:
- All dialogue regardless of language, unless that dialogue is covered by other text either burned into the film file or delivered as a separate forced narrative file.
- Sound effects (e.g. 'Door slams', 'Wind howls', 'Baby cries')
- Music Cues (e.g. 'Upbeat music plays', 'Rhythmic drums', '♪♪♪')
